Programming Announcement

Dear Community Members,

Over the past few weeks, we at the D.R. Moon Memorial Library have been closely monitoring the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak both globally and locally. We know many of you who have shared your concerns with us are also watching this situation. This past Friday, Governor Evers mandated school closure for several weeks in response to the outbreak in Wisconsin. We at the library share your and the governor’s concerns regarding this pandemic and are taking our own steps to prevent the spread of disease and keep our community safe and healthy.

Effective immediately, all programming at the D.R. Moon Memorial Library will be suspended until further notice. At this time, we will remain open our regular days and hours, but all regular and special programs are canceled.

In the coming weeks we will continue to monitor the situation and look to guidelines provided by our state and federal governments to determine the most prudent course of action in deciding programming, reducing hours, or closing the library. Please follow us on our social media platforms for up-to-date information about any cancellations or closures. The health and safety of our staff and community remains our highest priority.

What can you do?

Please stay home if you are sick. Wash your hands regularly. Cough into your elbow.
We are asking any patrons or staff who are feeling sick to stay home.
For the safety of our staff and patrons, anyone who is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, fever, shortness of breath) will be asked to leave the library. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should call their healthcare provider.

There are many library resources you can access for free from your home! Check out e-books, audiobooks, movies, music, magazines, and more via Hoopla, Overdrive, Freading, and Flipster. To start learning a new language or continue to work on one check out Transparent Languages Online which is also available as an app. You can find information about these services and other digital resources on our website.

What is the library doing?

Besides suspending programming, our staff is increasing focus on disinfecting high-touch areas such as counters, table tops, doorknobs, computer keyboards and computer mice. We are now requiring all patrons to wash their hands before using any of our computers and each desk is supplied with disinfectant to use as needed in their area. Hand sanitizer and wipes are available while supplies last, and we are encouraging frequent hand-washing.

Our materials (books, movies, CDs, etc.) are not disinfected when they are checked-in or as they are browsed or used in-house due to limited resources and supplies. All in-Library toys, games and crafting supplies have been pulled for cleaning and will be stored until the risk of contagion has passed.

Finally, we are providing resources and information to our community as this situation evolves. We recommend the following as the best resources for up to date information: the Wisconsin Department of Health, the Chippewa County Department of Public Health, the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization.

The situation with COVID-19 is constantly evolving, which requires our library to be flexible and make decisions quickly. We will continue to monitor federal, state, county, and local agencies for guidance with each step moving forward. Thank you for your understanding and support during this difficult situation for all.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Miniatt
Library Director
